Are You Expecting?
Congratulations!
Starting a family or welcoming another child into your family is a wonderful experience and truly a gift. Along with the beauty and joy of pregnancy, delivery and then coming home, there are bound to be times when you have questions about how to care for your baby and family.
We are here for you and your family.
We are excited and honored that you are considering us for your child’s care. It is always special for us to be invited by new parents to join in the care of a family member. The continuity of care and the amazement of watching a baby grow and develop into a wonderful child is one of the primary reasons that we all feel privileged to work in pediatrics.

First Appointment
It's important that we see your baby within 2-3 days of leaving the hospital. There are many problems that can that develop and worsen quickly in the first week. Seeing your baby within 2-3 days of after leaving the hospial is crucial. Most local hospitals will call us to make your baby's first appointment for you. If the hospital doesn't make the appointment for you, call us when you get home and we'll get your baby's appointment scheduled.
If you are choosing to deliver at home or at a birthing center using a nurse midwife, we strongly encourage you to call us for you baby's first appointment within the first 2-3 days after birth. Even though many midwives offer to provide routine care for your baby for the first month, it's important that your baby be evaluated by a board certified pediatrician who has the training and experience to detect and treat newborn problems early.
Unless you have questions, there is no need to contact us before your baby is born. When you come for your baby's first appointment we will have some paperwork for you to complete. If you can, try to arrive a little early to give time for that. We know those first trips out of the house are challenging though so we'll understand if you end up being a little late rather than a little early! We can't wait to meet your new son or daughter!
Please Bring The Following To Your First Appointment:
- Any paperwork from the hospital, including hearing screen results and immunization records.
- Any available insurance information (often only the parent’s insurance is available at the first visit).
- Plenty of diapers and an extra set of clothes.
- You can complete our Patient Demographics form ahead of time to speed up completing some of the initial paperwork.
