In 1962 Dr. William Kappes began his solo pediatric practice in Waynesboro, calling it Pediatric Associates of Waynesboro. In 1977 Dr. George Sproul established his pediatric practice in Staunton, eventually calling it Blue Ridge Pediatrics. Over the years both practices grew and new physicians joined the groups as the practices evolved. For some time in the late 1990's and early 2000's both practices became a part of the UVA Regional Primary Care network of practices. In 1998 the practices began a closer relationship, beginning to share call responsilities on the weekends and holidays. Ultimately each practice independently decided to leave the UVA Regional Primary Care network, returning to privately owned practices but maintaining the relationship of sharing call with each other. When the Waynesboro office returned to private practice, the name of the practice was changed to Waynesboro Pediatrics. In 2010 the groups began exploring the idea of becoming more formally aligned. On January 1, 2011 the doctors of both groups joined forces, becoming Valley Pediatric Group.
Through it all, both offices have maintained a commitment to providing state of the art pediatric care to the residents of Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta County and the surrounding areas. While being committed to excellent medical care is important to us, both groups also have had a stong commitment to providing warm, inviting, child and family-friendly environments. Over the years it's been our joy to watch many children grow to adulthood while we've cared for them in our offices and interacted with them in the community that we share. Both groups were pioneers in the area of medical information technology, establishing the use of electronic medical records years before most practices in the area. As Valley Pediatric Group we will maintain this same level of commitment to you and your children. We look forward to continuing to grow and expand our services to continue to meet your needs and the needs of our growing and changing community.
